The Small House Project
The Small House offers a small, intimate environment designed to support the high care needs of Elders with dementia, helping them feel more comfortable and secure by fostering a sense of familiarity
The Villa’s Small House will house 12 Elders, each with their own private room and 3-piece washroom with a shower, and a central shared living room, dining room and kitchen, connected to an outdoor space.
The home-like setting focuses on activities within a normal day and recognizes the importance of the dignity in risk and retaining abilities. This provides autonomy, control and self-determination for the Elders living in the Small House and leads to improved self-perceived quality of life and satisfaction. The model has also been shown to improve daily functioning and enhance social engagement among residents.
Construction approval for the Small House was received from the Ministry of Long-Term Care in spring of 2025, with construction expected to begin in late spring of 2025.
