Therapeutic Recreation Awareness Month

Therapeutic Recreation Awareness Month

February is Therapeutic Recreation Awareness Month and this year’s theme is Let Your Passions Flow!

The purpose of therapeutic recreation is to enable all people to achieve quality of life and optimal health through meaningful participation in recreation and leisure. Therapeutic recreation is about maintaining continuity in life through valued activities as well as providing opportunities to grow. Therapeutic Recreation professionals use recreation and leisure to help people to:

  • Improve physical and cognitive abilities
  • Increase confidence and self-esteem
  • Foster involvement in the community
  • Strengthen relationships and interpersonal skills
  • Enhance well-being
  • Encourage a greater sense of accomplishment

By learning a person’s story, identifying their strengths, professionals can connect Elders to meaningful and authentic leisure experiences.

When visiting The Lodge, The Manor and The Villa, stop and acknowledge the Recreation and Leisure Team.
