Care & Compassion: Nursing Teams

Care & Compassion: Nursing Teams

May is the month we recognize and celebrate the many roles that nurses, and Personal Support Workers (PSWs) play in healthcare.

International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world on the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. Nursing Week is May 8-14. The theme this year is Our Nurses. Our Future. This theme showcases the many roles that nurses play in providing care. The pandemic brought to light the courage and commitment that nurses work under every day.

Our skilled nurses oversee and are active members of our quality programs. This includes skin & wound, safety, continence care, palliative care, and behaviour supports. Our nurses shine with their knowledge, compassion, and expertise, following best practice guidelines to provide high quality care that is making a difference in the lives of Elders.

No matter how difficult the days may get, a nurse doesn’t forget the reason they became a nurse.  We have nurses within the County of Lambton that are celebrating one to forty years of being a nurse.  This speaks to the dedication and commitment of our nurses, many who have been employed within the County of Lambton for over twenty years.

Nurses bring kindness, comfort and care to the Elders that live at the Villa, Lodge and Manor and we appreciate all of them for making a difference every day.

May 19th marks the annual PSW Day, which was formally declared by the Ontario government in 2010 to recognize the essential services PSWs provide.

A PSW dedicates their time, energy, and heart to providing physical, mental, and emotional support to those in need. They have a strong desire to improve the lives of others and are committed to doing so.

Our PSW’s are responsible for providing person centered care in all areas of the Elders’ lives. Not only the physical aspect of assisting and providing support with activities of daily living, but through emotional, and psychosocial support as well. They are well versed and specially trained in different areas of geriatrics, which enables expertise and personalized care for Elders living with Dementia.

Our PSW’S provide dignified, compassionate care. We thank them for upholding the highest level of service and respect for each one of the Elders living at the Villa, Lodge, and Manor.
